Behold these non-Euclidean planes and tremble mortal ones! This record is no less than the result of the insanity-supping being you see upon yon album cover posing as three mortal fleshlings. If you wish for an eldritch simulation of plummetting down an endless ebon-black corridor amidst the uncaring coldness of the stars, look no further than this transmission from beyond!
Favorite track: Dunwich Whore.

What a lovely find this album was. This is essentially a love letter of sorts to H.P. Lovecraft, and the complex, disgusting atmosphere that this album excretes pays great homage to him. Outstanding the relentless arrangements are the vocals of Steve Peacock, who screams and rasps like a fucking knife into steel.
Favorite track: Infinite Cold Distance.
This was my favorite death? Black? Blackened Death? Cavernous Death? metal record released last year, and honestly one of my favorite of all time. The riffs are amazing, like super tasty, super moving, everything was perfect. I can always listen to this everyday, each time with a wide smile on my face!

Ulthar create something uniquely arcane within the Bay Area metal underground. The trio comes together on their debut full length ‘Cosmovore’ to unleash a feral urgency for dizzying Absu like Black Metal with a Death Metal band’s bludgeoning violence. Thematically heavy on weird, supernatural horror and a bizarre Rudimentary Peni surrealism, Ulthar are a difficult to classify spectral entity within the sphere of Black Metal.
Over the course of Cosmovore’s 40 minute run time speeds careen forward at primarily unrelenting velocity, the opening title track instantly battering with primal persistence. The album’s middle section, a blinding storm of ghastly black dread, leads into the 13+ minute epic ‘Dunwich Whore’ where the Ulthar universe becomes all consuming with proggy synth bookends, vertiginous tempo variation, grinding technical violence, and thrashed madness.
Yet another stellar debut album released under the 20 Buck Spin banner, Ulthar’s ‘Cosmovore’ stands as the monstrous opening salvo of a band only beginning to wage war.
